Elvis was presented with a guitar-shaped key to the city by Gov J C Coleman
Before a crowd of 3 thousand screaming
teenagers Elvis' triumphant homecoming
resulted in pandemonium. Fans screamed
and fainted and were carried out
on stretchers. Elvis donated $10,000
to charity. Gladys and Vernon Presley were in the
audience and could not believe what
was happening. At
his first homecoming concert Elvis
wore a hand-made shirt a year later
he returned to perform in a
gold lame jacket.
