Elvis kissed the girls and made them cry

September 26 1956 was declared Elvis Presley Day in Tupelo, Mississippi. Elvis homecoming performed two show at the Tupelo, Alabama Fair and Dairy Show in a hand-sewn blue velvet shirt which his mother had made for her son.

Elvis was presented with a guitar-shaped key to the city by Gov J C Coleman 

Before a crowd of 3 thousand screaming teenagers Elvis' triumphant homecoming resulted in pandemonium. Fans screamed and  fainted and were carried out on stretchers. Elvis donated $10,000 to charity.

Gladys and Vernon Presley were in the audience and could not believe what was happening. At his first homecoming concert Elvis wore and hand-made shirt a year later he return to Tupelo to perform in a gold lame jacket.
