September 26 1956 was declared Elvis
Presley Day in Tupelo, Mississippi.
Elvis homecoming performed two show at
the Tupelo, Alabama Fair and Dairy
Show in a hand-sewn blue velvet shirt
which his mother had made for her son.

Elvis was
presented with a guitar-shaped key to
the city by Gov J C Coleman
Before a crowd of 3 thousand screaming
teenagers Elvis' triumphant homecoming
resulted in pandemonium. Fans screamed
and fainted and were carried out
on stretchers. Elvis donated $10,000
to charity.

Gladys and Vernon Presley were in the
audience and could not believe what
was happening. At
his first homecoming concert Elvis
wore and hand-made shirt a year later
he return to Tupelo to perform in a
gold lame jacket.
